Hi I'm Joe Beard, living in a village
just south of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
At age 17, I attended a course at an art
college, getting a place on merit. After this, I went into office work.
Due to the onset of arthritis, I took
early retirement, and began painting in 1998.
Since then, I have been fortunate to have
my work exhibited and sold in various galleries in the North-East,
particularly the Annual Shipley Art Gallery Christmas exhibition for the
Gateshead Art Society, and Coquetdale Art Gallery, Rothbury where I
exhibit throughout the year. |

My preferred media are pastels and
gouache.
I usually work from my own
photographs which include local landscapes and portraiture; I also
enjoy painting animals. T
he photographs are loaded onto
computer for digital enhancement and composition.
I find this enriches the more
enjoyable experience of actually painting the subjects." |

''I attended the West of England College of
Art and Design, Bristol in 1966 doing a year of a course in fashion
and textile design before going into a career in office work.
In 1998 due to increasingly osteoarthritis,
I gave up working and decided to try my hand at painting again.
I joined the Shipcote Art Society, Gateshead
in that year and eventually before leaving became their chair
person/secretary.
I moved then to the Gateshead Art Society
who exhibit each year at the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead around
Christmas.
I have also exhibited work at the Hatton Art
Gallery, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. |
| In 2002 I had an exhibition with another artist at the New
Horizons Gallery, Bellingham, Northumberland.
In 2003, I had a solo exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery – Art on
the Tyne, entitled North East Aspects.
I currently also exhibit at the Coquetdale Art
Gallery, Rothbury throughout the year.
Although I have painted in pastel, my main media
is gouache and apart from landscapes, I also enjoy still-life,
portraits, animals and flowers, having sold work in all these spheres. |

purchaser and at their own liability.
Unframed work in the form of A4 signed
prints on white card is available by post at a standard fee of £20
